In case you ever wondered what it would sound like if Motörhead invited the Dubliners to a tea party and discovered there were a few bottles of vodka stashed in the cupboard...
It must have been late 2004 when two-bit fantasy writer and hardcore punk veteran Olaf (former lead singer of Cradle to the Grave and Four Minute Warning) decided he was missing something in the music he was making. Having been a folk music fan ever since he first heard The Pogues it was time he started integrating those different styles along with re-discovering an old love, heavy metal. He knew former TBL-guitarist and staunch Iron Maiden fan Bus was interested, they started talking about a new band. A metalhead and a punk deciding to make music together - the only problem was finding the right people... The project was put on ice, but only for a short time.
By spring 2005 Olaf had started discussing these things with guitarist Dennis (an evil motherfolker who used to play in horror punk band Damion), bass player Paul and guitarist Dave, two local pub terrorists who both had no former band experience but were definitely interested in making loud folked up music. Bus was called in again. Three guitarists was a bit much, so it was decided Dennis would take up the 6 string banjo to deliver some of that much needed strumming. A request was sent to skinhead queen Niena, drummer to all-girl hardcore smashers Siren, who had started her career in punk band Throwing Tomatones and had a strong interest in Irish folk. Soon her bomber drums were added to the ever growing bulk of a band. Besides throwing his rot gut vocals into the fray Olaf also took up the mandolin to help the banjo fight the machine gun guitars – thus Chain of Dogs was born...
Later on...
Our bass player Paul wasn't able to continue his presents with the band. He had to move to the other side of the country for his studies. He was soon replaced by a black metal queen called Anouk (she used to play the bands "Vaultage" en "Full of Hate"). We are proud to call her our own. See fills up the void perfect. She brings balance to the band with her beauty and excellent bass play. Things where finally getting from the ground. After a while we sadly had to part with our guitarist Bus. He could not continue due to his work. We started playing with only one guitarist. We had our first show 25-3-2006, at a local stage called "De Oefenbunker" in Landgraaf. Surprisingly we had 194 paying guests. It was very crowded and fun to play. After that show a local skinhead named Glenn cam to us and wanted to recruit. He was perfect to fill the place off second guitarist. So the band was complete again.
The show went on…
After a few gigs or beloved drummer Nienna had to choose between us and her other band "Siren". One of Nienna best friends plays in Siren and they're a pretty unique band. With pain in our hearts we had to let Nienna go. We had no drummer at the moment. Nienna was able to come to rehearsals but could not play any shows. Nienna brought a friend who also played the drums. She was a shy little girl called Silvy. She filled in for a few show. We soon discovered that she had very much talent. She picked up the songs in no time. She couldn't stay for long because she had others bands that needed her too. Than suddenly out of the blue came a young black metal guy named Kaz. He was a drummer in search for an folk-metal band to play in. He was a big fan of ours and was eager to play with us. We couldn't believe our luck. A fine drummer presented on our doorstep wrapped as a perfect present. So we are whole ones more.
Now let us see where the battle takes us…
